Skyzone about multiplayer games in the US
December 5th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »
Neil Halder, VP of Content Programming & Strategy at Skyzone has published an article for Gamasutra in regards to multiplayer games in the US. He compares the US mostly with Asia which is far more ahead and gamer centric. He explains that the US has a lot of barriers to overcome of which one certainly is the network. Here in The Netherlands for example, it’s no problem to play a multiplayer game while travelling. The handset has enough possibilities to keep the line open. The US however still had a lot of gaps in the network which makes mobile gaming on the go a problem. Neil recons carriers, developers and device manufacturers should come together to find a solution to ensure the US can move to the next level.

M:Metrics: Glu the number 2!?
December 4th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | 1 Comment »
Though Glu still hasn’t shown any financials yet, M:Metrics calculated that Glu has beaten Gameloft to the race for the big number 2 in Q3 2006. At the same time, they also calculated loss of market share at EA who dropped from 32.2% (Q2) to 26.5% (Q3). The number four is also surprising as Namco has gained more market share as well, meaning they have put Hands-On back to the fifth position. It’s clear the battle of the giants is far from over.
