EA’s John Riccitiello: We’re boring people to death…

EamobileSomething interesting happened in the world of console and PC games as EA’s exec John Riccitiello said: “We’re boring people to death and making games that are harder and harder to play,” in a recent interview.

John explained that the games industry is releasing too many games that are too hard to play and lack innovation. Gaming companies need to push more aggressively beyond the traditional consumer and experiment more with new sales approaches instead of the traditional $ 50 to $ 60 discs with 40 hours of fun.

John also points toward the competition to show examples of games that clearly make a difference like Guitar Hero from Activision and World of Warcraft from Vivendi’s Blizzard. Though EA is and will remain king of the sequels, John says EA will have to put more creativity in them.

“For the most part, the industry has been rinse-and-repeat,” he says. “There’s been lots of product that looked like last year’s product, that looked a lot like the year before.”
