MobileIndustry has put online an interesting interview with I-Play‘s
Leighton Webb yesterday in which the future of the recently acquired
I-Play Is drafted out a bit.

The focus in 2007 will remain on casual games and some hardcore 3D Titles. Leighton also explains how to raise the 5% mobile of mobile phone users that play games today to 30-40%. In order to do that, I-Play is looking for a channel that makes it much easier for the consumer to receive their game.

During the interview, MI asks Leighton where I-Play stands in the chain of big mobile publishers. Thought he doesn’t want to give a number, Leighton does say that I-Play will become the number one publisher and so beating companies like Glue, Gameloft and EA off their current position. I-Play will do this by improving their brands and mobile game quality. We will see some announcements on new categories (probably card, casino and board games) in their portfolio soon. Also, he notes I-Play is profitable (bought by Oberon today) where the competition is not.
