App Store Downloads Pass One-Billion!

April 26th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Apple Though we wanted to start with ‘Finally!’, it is actually amazing that Apple has managed to push over one billion app store downloads since the start, but what does it mean?

For the lucky winner of the Apple one billion contest, it means a lot as he or she will receive an iPhone 32GB, MacBook 17″, Time Capsule and $10.000 in iTunes credit!

For the industry it means that Apple is pushing 3.5 million downloads a day on average (and we feel it’s still growing). If you compare that to the roughly 30 million iPhones out there, we can say that Apple has a very active consumer base. Sadly enough though, we don’t know the percentage of non-commercial downloads as there are a lot of freebies.

With this success, we wonder if Apple will ever consider opening up the simple iPods to mobile gaming. I just received an iPod Nano about a month ago and am pretty bored with the game offering already (though Peggle is great!)
