Mobile operators game for new money-spinner

Service providers are expecting a boom in the mobile games segment as more and more users are looking for handsets with additional entertainment features.

According to In-Stat/MDR, a US-based research agency, the wireless gaming market in India will grow to $26 million by 2005 and $336 million by 2009.
India constitutes only 5 per cent of the global wireless gaming industry. However, it is poised for growth with GSM and CDMA operators clocking an average of 220,000 downloads per month. More …

To promote the sippable soup, Virtu Mobile developed the Campbell’s Soup at Hand 3D Snowboarding mobile game, which encourages gamers to capture Soup at Hand cans throughout the game to prolong their snowboarder’s life. The company, which saw it’s mobile version of quiz game Trivial Pursuit reach number two in the official UK mobile games chart in November 2004*, has seen downloads soar for games which are not aimed at the traditional ‘console’ gamer.

"The mobile games market has often been treated as simply another games platform," says Juha Ruskola, the managing director of Mr Goodliving. Hoota & Snoz Come To Mobile Phones

Mobile games distributor and aggregator Telcogames has today signed an agreement with Australian production company Blue Rocket, to bring Hoota & Snoz, two of the cartoon world’s most badly-behaved characters to a series of games and entertainment services for mobile phones.

Three animated series of Hoota & Snoz have been created by Blue Rocket to date, with further series planned. The shows are broadcast on some of the world’s most popular TV channels in over 100 countries including ABC and Nickelodeon in Australia, Disney Channel Europe, Disney Channel Asia, Disney Channel Japan and Nickelodeon in the UK. Wireless gaming is on track to become the single largest wireless data application category from a revenue perspective, overtaking ring tones in 2005 and rising to nearly $1.5 billion annually by 2008, according to a new report from IDC. Filipino game development firm spawns mobile app startup

FILIPINO PC game developer Anino Entertainment is opening a new company that will focus on mobile phone game development.

The new company, Anino Mobile, was created in response to the increased use of multimedia-enabled phones, Anino said.

Fox signs mobile-phone games deal

Twentieth Century Fox and Sorrent, Inc. has announced a two-year worldwide partnership in which Sorrent will be the exclusive publisher of mobile games and content for selected upcoming Fox feature film releases.

The partnership will launch with a mobile game and special entertainment content for Fox’s highly-anticipated computer animated feature film, "Robots."
