EA: Command and Conquer Acquisition Doesn’t Work

February 11th, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | No Comments »

EamobileSomething a bit off to mobile, EA’s CEO John Riccitiello recently said at the D.I.C.E. 08 event that the model of acquiring successful developers doesn’t work.

EA is well known for buying successful developers, but also for letting those developers creatively fail after the acquisition. Big examples are Westwood and Bullfrog.

"While consolidation may be an unpleasant topic, it is not something I believe you can ignore," he told the audience assembled at D.I.C.E. Summit 2008." Perhaps the thing that I would decry most, that I would find myself most afraid of and frustrated by, in way too many cases, is that it’s leading to creative failure," he said. "Our consumer has every right to believe that their USD 59 will be well spent." said Riccitiello
