The US government has approved new copyright rules (DMCA) that allow consumers to jailbreak or root their devices. Unlocks and installing custom roms is also allowed by law.
For those celebrating, there are some notes to keep in mind when applying such measures. They are only allowed if the jailbreak is required to run software that was obtained legally. This means that a jailbreak just to run hacked games will remain illegal though it will be harder to detect and prosecute.
Furthermore, the DMCA now allows apps and games to be hacked the test the security of the software as long as this happens in good faith.
