Microsoft to Launch Zune HD, Without Gaming!?

August 14th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: XNA | No Comments »

Microsoft Microsoft has announced the launch date of the Zone HD in the US market. With it's specs it was expected to bring fierce competition to the iPod Touch, yet there is no sign of mobile gaming yet…

The device packs an Nvidea Tegra processor, which is one of the fastest found in multimedia players today. The chip combines an ARM 11 core with a GeForce graphics chip. According to VentureBeat, Microsoft explained that this choice was made to quickly render Flash and web pages.

This choice means that Flash developers get a chance at creating daring 3D mobile games for the platform, though there is no clear way to offer them yet.

Other developers, that probably have the skills to create a cunning native gaming experience, will probably have to wait. Venturebeat speculates that the ZuneHD might become some sort of Xbox Mobile device. By bet is on the OneApp Store though as I have the feeling that Microsoft might introduce a Zune dedicated sales channel.
