Motorola and I-Play Offer Developer Challenge

Motorola and I-Play have announced their plans for setting up a mobile games development challenge. There will be two technological categories in which contestants will battle for glory and a publishing deal with I-Play, a briefcase of Motorola handsets (I hope without packaging) and a set of I-Play games. The first category is best J2me game for the KRZR K1 and the sec0ond is the best windows mobile game for Motorola’s Q series of devices. Submissions to the contest are open until August 10th. The judges will be from both Motorola and I-Play as well as external partners.

Ronaldinho’s Mobile Bubble Bobble Adventures

Spanish developer LemonQuest has released their games based on the Ronaldinho license. LemonQuest truly shows how to use a license at fullest as they delivered a huge diversity of games. As you can expect, there is a regular football game, but we have also seen conversions of Tetris, Zuma and Bubble Bobble. This remembers me of the adult mobile gaming industry where the same thing often happens.

THQ’s 2007 Release List

THQ has released a list of licenses that will be turned into mobile games this year. One of the main licenses will be LEGO Batman. LEGO Batman is the second LEGO franchise acquired by THQ while Danish developer Kiloo still owns the general and Bionicle LEGO licenses.

3GSM: The Industry Needs to Address Key Issues

Gunnar Larson, director of mobile games at Real Networks held his keynote at 3GSM about the problems when it comes to customer satisfaction when purchasing mobile games. Right now, only 4 out of 100 consumers returns to buy a second game. This means from every 100 sales, 96 of them are not compelling enough for consumers to value mobile gaming. This means quality has to improve on operator decks and we as an industry should help out on this. A way to stimulate returning consumers is by offering ‘try and buy’ versions of our games.

OrangePixel Releases Akira*Hero

OrangePixel just released Akira*Hero, a follow-up to the successful Dynamo Kid series of mobile games. Spread over three worlds with over 30 secrets to be discovered, OrangePixel hopes to have released another hard to let go game. The game will be distributed shortly and also be available on GameJump.

Namco Launches Scene It? Movie Edition

Namco has released “Scene It? Movie Edition”. With well over a thousand questions related to movies, this is one of the biggest movie related quiz games around. The game originated from DVD. In the conversion they picked out the top categories from the original.
