RIM’s App World Goes Web Based

August 27th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: BlackBerry | No Comments »

Rim Shopping online through a mobile phone will not limit users to where they are, but some might still prefer a normal screen to check out what they want to purchase. RIM has now opeped the web based version of their App World store.

Unlike iTunes, the store will not handle billing and downloading (at the moment). When a consumer finds a great game, they have to enter the e-mail address of their device and they will receive a deeplink for downloading and purchasing the software.

The current App World catalogue has well over 2200 titles and just like the App Store from Apple, Games are leading the way. The store does still have a long way to go if RIM wants to really mimic the success of Apple.
