Activision to Open new UK-Based Studio

May 22nd, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | No Comments »

In an interview with Develop magazine, Martyn Brown is said to be helping Activision find new talent for a UK based game development studio. The new outfit will be dedicated to creating mobile games.

Long, long ago, Activision used to license out most of their console and PC titles to publishing powerhouse Mforma (these days known as Connect2Media). When the company merged with Vivendi (who invested bigtime in setting up their own publishing unit), Activision closed down the newly found mobile unit as it didn’t fit their strategy and went back to licensing.

Activision used to own a UK-based development unit called Bizarre Creations. The unit was based in Liverpool and closed down about 18 months ago. Reason to re-enter the UK might be the government tax break for UK developers.
