Telcogames Closes Fathammer and Magic Studios, to Receive Funding

November 6th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | 1 Comment »

TelcogamesIt’s been a long time since we spoke about Telcogames and the last updates where pretty much about distribution deals and acquisitions. Today however we have a fresh rumor that isn’t really a rumor at all.

Just like InfoSpace, buying several studios can lead into troubles to keep them performing. As so, Telcogames has closed two of the bigger studios they acquired; Fathammer (06-06-2006, must be something with the three sixes) and Magic Studios (28-11-2005). Magic Studios (France) was mainly working in the Symbian / Windows Mobile field whereas Fathammer (Finland) was one of the leading studios to develop 3D mobile games. Fathammer has developed the award winning mobile game SiL in 2006 amongst many other games.

At the same time, Telcogames is going to receive fresh funding. Exact amounts and dates or even investors involved are unknown as all the news in this post is pretty much unofficial. A lot of developers we spoke about these rumors say they just hope to get paid finally…

Personally we really liked SiL and some of the other productions from the Fathammer studios. We hope the former employees continue there work in other places. There is some good news as well for other people that love SiL as Telcogames will release a PC version of it around Christmas.

Thanks! Most of the original staff left already before and most of us got new and better jobs quite easily. =)
