THQ Liquidates Universomo

March 3rd, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | No Comments »

Universomo On Januari 27th, we already reported that Universomo MD Markku Hakala had resigned from THQ Wireless owned Universomo. Now, it turns out that THQ Wireless has liquidated the Finnish studio.

The studio had already undergone serious reorganizations in 2009 as THQ Wireless was one of the first publishers to abandon J2me to focus on the iPhone and iPod Touch. With that restructuring, the company had already been laying off 100 employees throughout THQ Wireless.

Even though THQ Wireless  shuts down their last (original) mobile games studio, they will keep their focus on mobile publishing mobile games. Those games will be coming from external developers all over the world as well as from THQ’s Digital Studios, which is good for creating a well mixed catalogue of games. The company expects to release about 15 titles in 2010.
