Wireless companies are under pressure to police the services they carry amid mounting concern that today’s increasingly versatile cell phones can be gateways to a lot more than football highlights and pop videos.

As governments and parent groups wake up to the problems posed by an expected global boom in mobile pornography and gambling, a few operators are taking action to restrict such content to over-18s. No Takers for Bollywood Games

As if flop movies churned out in Bollywood aren’t enough, here comes more unpromising entertainment. Mumbai-based mobile content company Mauj Telecom is offering games based on movies such as Rudraksh, Dil Maange More, Ab Tak Chhappan and Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

In a small survey conducted, most mobile users reacted unpleasantly and agreed that both the games and the story line sound unappealing. These games based on Bollywood movie themes are developed similar to popular old games like arcade, adventure and mazes.  More …

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication and Exit Games announce the world’s first 3D multiplayer games for the upcoming 3D Java devices released in Q2 2005. The cooperation involves the global marketing of several Java games for GPRS and 3G networks. Capitalizing on the explosive growth of mobile, Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR) announced today at 3 GSM World Congress that it has entered into a worldwide, multi-year partnership with Sorrent Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, to develop and publish a suite of creative mobile content based on the Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.

The agreement expands Atari’s platform mix for the game, which was developed in partnership with Marc Ecko Enterprises, to leverage the portability and connectivity of the mobile platform. A top-class newcomer is joining the mobile entertainment software sector. This studio, the Hamburg-based game developer Fishlabs, can already look back on more than twelve years of experience in the area of 3D multimedia projects.

Fishlabs positions itself as a developer and distributor of mobile 3D games on the highest technical level. "Our expertise lies in the development of groundbreaking 3D technologies and their integration into completely new mobile game experiences," says Michael Schade, CEO of Fishlabs. Indiagames Creates Mask Games

Mumbai-based mobile content publisher Indiagames announced it has partnered with film company New Line Cinema, a unit of Time Warner, to create mobile content based on "Son of the Mask".

Son of the Mask is the sequel of the 1994-Jim Carrey starrer The Mask. The family comedy is scheduled for a February 18, 2005, release. The wireless content, which will be available beginning February 2005, includes mobile games, wallpaper, screensavers, ring tones, voice ringers, and alerts. More …
